[[[starr注:该公司说: It's a server-less solution unlike voicemail; and works on any handheld on any network in the world, requires no handheld client to download, and does not require a subscription. just "click, talk, send, -> alert, listen" like a plain text sms. 想了一下,不是很明白其中的技术方法。据说推广到了好几个国家,哪位用过了他们的这种服务,可以说说。其中采用了VoIP,所以没有长途费用。

Bubble Motion, the world’s first voice short message service provider, today announced that it has secured US$10 million in series B funding from Sequoia Capital US and India respectively. The technology company will use the funds to enhance research and development of BubbleTALKTM and expand sales and marketing efforts in various countries, globally.

Bubble Motion provides the technology behind BubbleTALK that enables mobile phone users to talk, listen and reply to messages as an alternative to the conventional type and read message service provided by the mobile operators. BubbleTALKTM is capable of working on any 2G, 2.5G and 3G networks around the world. The service which can be used on any handset in the market today has over 50 million subscribers in 6 countries.

Today, million's of BubbleTALKTM messages are being exchanged through various mobile phone operators including CSL and New World Mobility in Hong Kong, m1 in Singapore, Digi in Malaysia, Indosat in Indonesia and Airtel in India. Customers using the service are billed per message similar to SMS charges.

As comedian Jerry Seinfeld once noted, sometimes you call someone when you’re really hoping to get their answering machine. Now, a short-messaging service gives mobile users just that option—the equivalent of permanent phone tag—and venture capitalists are betting it will take off.

Last week, Sequoia Capital’s American and Indian divisions led a $10-million funding round for Bubble Motion, the Singapore technology company that developed the service, called BubbleTALK. The company’s concept for its Asian customers: Sending packets of audio to one another, instead of texting.

Co-founded by Indian entrepreneurs Sunil Coushik and Venu Sriperumal, BubbleTALK was launched in 2005 on $5 million from angel investors. Its first customer was Malaysian telecom company DiGi Telecommunications. Now, 50 million subscribers use the service in five countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, and Indonesia.

Asians are all about short-messaging, or SMS. Mobile penetration in the region is expected to reach 37 percent by 2010, according to International Data Corporation. Text-messaging is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the mobile market. But texting can be hard on the thumbs, so why not just send a voicemail? Bubble Talk co-founder Mr. Coushik responds, “Using BubbleTALK, the intention is to send a voice message rather than call the other party.” In other words, this is a service for those who have so fully embraced the idea of asynchronous communication that they really don’t want to talk directly to anyone.

Here’s how BubbleTALK works: the sender enters the number of the person she wants to reach and leaves a short message. The recipient is alerted to the message, presses the star key, and out comes the voice.

But does a technology company really want to associate itself with the word “bubble”?
